Message from the Chairman of the Board

Great things are happening at your Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce and throughout the county!

Dr. Rick Harper, professor of Economics at University of West Florida, made a presentation to the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners on Monday, April 25th regarding the future demands for housing in the county. Dr. Harper's report to the Commissioners indicated that Santa Rosa County will need to build 1500 homes each year for the next 8 years to keep up with the county's projected growth. The report also included projections indicating that new home construction will generate 5327 net new jobs and $288 million in local income. This is great news for the business community in Santa Rosa County.

Also in April, Leadership Santa Rosa Class 31 had a great day learning about our military presence in Santa Rosa County on board NAS Whiting Field. We love our Military! Speaking of military, the month of May is Military Appreciation Month, and we are gearing up for another awesome Military Appreciation Month Picnic at NAS Whiting Field. This is always a great event, giving the business community a wonderful opportunity to let the fine folks that serve our country and protect our freedom just how much we appreciate all they do. Don't forget to let the men and women that serve in our military know how grateful we are for their service! If you and your organization are interested in participating in the picnic, contact Donna or Nicole at the Chamber office. A big THANK YOU goes out to Tracy Allen and Brian Watkins, this year's Co-Chairmen for the Military Appreciation Month Picnic!

Another exciting piece of news is that we are at 72% of our funding for the new Chamber building. The plans have been approved by the county and we are ready to begin construction as soon as we reach 85% of the funding needed for the project. If you or your organization would like to support the building project through a tax-deductible monetary or in-kind donation, contact Donna at the Chamber office.

Finally, it is my pleasure to introduce to you the newest member of the Chamber staff, Alicia King! Alicia comes to us as an intern through Locklin Tech. A big THANK YOU goes out to our excellent partners in education, the Santa Rosa County School District and Locklin Tech! If your organization is interested in adding an intern to your staff, contact Donna at the Chamber office.

Steve Rhodes
2017 Chairman of the Board
